Terrific writing as always. A lot to ponder here. As a golfer (and also a climber) one thing didn’t compute. A round typically takes 4+ hours. If a course opens at 8:00 it would be really hard to play 4 rounds in a day. Plus, he would not be able to afford 4 rounds in a day, unless he had a membership, which is unlikely if he is traveling from course to course.

Last time I tried to play a round of golf I ended up so drunk that I crashed the golf cart into a tree (totaled it!). So… I don’t know anything about golf or how long it takes to play it. I am aware that it cost $$ though. I doubt golf can support a “dirt bag” like this, but maybe it can - and if it can said dirt bag would be capable of playing for free somehow. If I ever polish this up down the road I’ll have to give that more thought and try to come up with something that makes sense.
